Grug began his life as the top of a Burrawang tree. Resembling a small, striped haystack with feet and a nose, he is fascinated by the world around him. Come along for this story session and meet Grug and his creator, Ted Prior, in person. Perfect for kids aged 2–6, but fun for fans of all ages. Presented with Varuna, the National Writers’ House. Supported by the Blue Mountains Library & Cultural Centre and Pinerolo, the Children’s Book Cottage.

Ted Prior (Australian)

Ted Prior was born in Sydney in 1945 and spent much of his childhood in Kandos, New South Wales where he first fell in love with the Australian bush. At 16 he joined the New South Wales Police Force and at the age of 21 he left to study painting full-time at Sydney's National Art School. In 1975, he went to live on a small farm near Dorrigo in northern New South Wales. It was there he attempted self-sufficiency and created the character Grug, partly in response to the birth of his first two children. The first Grug book was published in 1979 and 30 have been published since then. During 1979 and 1980, he also worked in film animation and children's television.
